Scheduled Maintenance Overview
The 2025 Ford Super Duty lineup, including the F-250, F-350 and F-450, shares a common maintenance schedule across all three models. Whether you drive a Super Duty for daily hauling, commercial work or weekend towing, staying on top of Ford's recommended service intervals is essential to protect your investment and maintain peak performance.
All 2025 Super Duty trucks are equipped with Ford's Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM), which tracks engine operating conditions such as temperature, load, RPM and idle time to calculate the right oil change interval and displays a message on the instrument cluster when service is due. Ford also sets a hard ceiling: never go more than one year or 10,000 miles between oil changes on the gas engines, or one year or 15,000 miles on the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel, even if the monitor has not called for service. Heavy towing, extended idling and short trips all shorten the interval the monitor allows.
The 2025 Super Duty is available with four powertrains: the 6.8L V8 gas engine producing 405 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque, the 7.3L V8 "Godzilla" gas engine producing 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft, the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel producing 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft, and the 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke producing 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft. The two gas engines are offered on the F-250 and F-350, while the F-450 pickup is diesel only. Both diesel outputs share the same service parts and intervals, and while gas and diesel engines share many maintenance items, the Power Stroke has several additional requirements covered in detail below.
Oil & Filter
IOLM-determined, up to 1 year / 10,000 miles on gas engines and 1 year / 15,000 miles on the diesel. Gas: 8.0 qt of 5W-30 full synthetic (WSS-M2C961-A1) with a Motorcraft FL-820-S filter. Diesel: 15.0 qt of Motorcraft SAE 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel oil (WSS-M2C171-F1) with an FL-2124-S filter.
Tire Rotation
Rotate and inspect tires at every oil change. On dual-rear-wheel trucks Ford rotates the front tires only unless unusual wear shows up, so mention any uneven wear to your advisor.
Cabin Air Filter
Replace the Motorcraft FP-92 cabin air filter every 20,000 miles to keep airflow and HVAC performance up in your Super Duty cab.
Spark Plugs
Gas engines: Motorcraft SP-589 plugs (x8) at 100,000 miles, or 60,000 miles under severe service. The Power Stroke diesel has no spark plugs, and Ford publishes no glow-plug replacement interval.

Time-Based Service Intervals
Brake Fluid: Ford's schedule calls for new brake fluid every 3 years regardless of mileage, with no shorter severe-service interval. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which reduces braking effectiveness on long mountain descents and can cause internal corrosion, so do not skip it.
Engine Coolant: The Motorcraft Yellow coolant (VC-13DL-G) in every 2025 Super Duty gets its first change at 10 years or 200,000 miles, then every 5 years or 100,000 miles. In between, your technician checks concentration, freeze point, level and hoses at every oil change and adds coolant additive if needed.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF): The 6.7L Power Stroke uses DEF to treat its exhaust, and Ford's schedule has the DEF tank refilled at every oil change. Consumption rises with load and towing, so check the level monthly and top it off when the cluster warns that DEF is low rather than letting the tank run dry.

6.7L Power Stroke Diesel: Additional Service Items
The Power Stroke diesel, in either standard or High-Output form, requires several maintenance items that do not apply to the gas engines. Staying on top of these diesel-specific intervals is critical for emissions compliance, engine longevity and peak performance:
- Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF): Refill at every oil change. The fuel/water separator is drained at the same visit whenever the truck indicates it.
- Fuel Filter Replacement: Every 30,000 miles under normal service, or every 15,000 miles under severe service. The Power Stroke uses two filters, one engine-mounted and one frame-mounted, replaced together as the Motorcraft FD-4625AA kit. Contaminated fuel or water intrusion can cause serious injector damage if filters are neglected.
- Air Filtration: The Motorcraft FA-2031 engine air filter is replaced every 30,000 miles (with the air-filter monitor reset), and the FA-1952 air-inlet foam pre-filter every 50,000 miles, or every 30,000 miles in dusty, severe service.
- Accessory Drive Belt: Inspect at 90,000 miles, re-inspect every 15,000 miles if it stays in service, and replace at 100,000 miles.
- Diesel Engine Oil: Ford specifies Motorcraft SAE 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel Motor Oil meeting WSS-M2C171-F1, with SAE 5W-40 full synthetic for severe duty, 5W-40 or 15W-40 when running B20 biodiesel and 0W-40 for extreme cold, all to the same Ford spec. The Power Stroke takes 15.0 quarts with a Motorcraft FL-2124-S filter, nearly double the 8.0 quarts of the gas engines, so make sure your service provider uses the correct specification and quantity.
- Cooling System: The diesel carries 31.7 quarts of Motorcraft Yellow coolant in its primary system (33.3 with the auxiliary radiator) plus a separate 8.2-quart secondary circuit (10.0 with the cooled compressor), all on the 10-year / 200,000-mile schedule.
Severe & Special Operating Conditions
Ford defines "severe" or "special" operating conditions as any driving pattern that places increased stress on the engine, transmission and drivetrain. If your Super Duty regularly operates under any of the following conditions, you should follow the severe maintenance schedule with shorter service intervals:
- Towing a trailer or carrying heavy payloads (including fifth-wheel and gooseneck loads)
- Driving on steep, mountainous terrain or long grades (common in Western NC)
- Frequent short trips, especially in cold weather
- Extended idling or low-speed driving (job site work, construction, farming)
- Driving on unpaved, dusty, muddy or gravel roads
- Operating in extreme heat or cold
- Commercial or fleet use with high daily mileage, or DRW trucks running at or near GVWR
- Operating with a snow plow, dump body or other upfit equipment

Power Stroke diesel owners should take advantage of the engine-exhaust braking system on long descents to reduce wear on brake pads and rotors. The exhaust brake uses back-pressure from the turbocharger to slow the vehicle without relying solely on the service brakes, a significant advantage when towing heavy loads down mountain grades. Consult your owner's manual for proper exhaust brake operation.
