2026 Ford Bronco Sport Maintenance Schedule
Complete Service Intervals for 1.5L EcoBoost I-3 & 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 Engines

Ford Bronco Sport Scheduled Maintenance Overview
Keeping your 2026 Ford Bronco Sport on schedule protects your investment and ensures reliable performance whether you are commuting through Brevard or tackling forest service roads in the Pisgah National Forest. Ford's maintenance plan relies on the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM), an algorithm-based system that tracks engine RPM, load, temperature, and trip length to determine exactly when your Bronco Sport needs service, so there's no guesswork required.
Under normal conditions the IOLM can run as long as 10,000 miles or 1 year between changes, and Ford states never to exceed that limit. Badlands owners who use the off-road modes and twin-clutch 4x4 system frequently, and anyone doing short trips or steep mountain grades, will see the message come on sooner because of the added engine load and heat.

Complete Maintenance Schedule by Mileage
| Mileage Interval | Services Performed |
|---|---|
| Every 10,000 miles (IOLM; do not exceed 10,000 mi / 1 yr) | Change engine oil & filter (reset IOLM); rotate tires; multi-point inspection; inspect ATF level; inspect brake pads/rotors/hoses & parking brake; inspect coolant level/strength & hoses; inspect exhaust & heat shields; inspect rear axle & U-joints (AWD); inspect halfshaft boots; inspect steering linkage, ball joints, suspension, tie-rod ends, driveshaft & U-joints; inspect tires/tread depth; inspect wheels; inspect cabin & engine air filters, service as required |
| Every 20,000 mi | Replace cabin air filter (FP-131) |
| Every 30,000 mi | Replace engine air filter |
| Every 100,000 mi | Replace spark plugs; inspect accessory drive belt(s) |
| Every 150,000 mi | Change automatic transmission fluid; replace accessory drive belt(s) if not replaced in last 100,000 mi |
| At 200,000 mi / 10 years | Change engine coolant (initial); then every 5 years / 100,000 mi |
| Every 3 years | Change brake fluid (DOT 4 LV, WSS-M6C65-A2) |
Time-Based Service
Brake fluid: Replace every 3 years regardless of mileage or driving conditions; Ford does not shorten this interval for severe use. The Bronco Sport requires Motorcraft DOT 4 LV brake fluid (WSS-M6C65-A2) and special equipment available at the Mahon Ford service center. Engine coolant: Motorcraft Yellow prediluted coolant gets its first change at 200,000 miles or 10 years, then every 100,000 miles or 5 years.
Engine-Specific Maintenance Details
The 2026 Ford Bronco Sport is available with two EcoBoost engines, and they do not share an oil spec. The 1.5L EcoBoost I-3 in the Big Bend, Heritage and Outer Banks takes SAE 0W-20 full synthetic (WSS-M2C972-A1, 5.0 quarts) with a spin-on Motorcraft FL-910-S filter, while the 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 exclusive to the Badlands takes SAE 5W-30 (WSS-M2C971-A1, 5.3 quarts) with a Motorcraft FL-2127 cartridge filter. For 2026 Ford updated both oil specifications, but the part numbers and intervals carried over: both engines use Motorcraft SP-597-X spark plugs (three in the 1.5L, four in the 2.0L), the FP-131 cabin filter and the same 8-speed automatic.

AWD System Maintenance
Every Bronco Sport is 4x4, and the Badlands adds a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with a differential lock. Ford's schedule does not call for a fluid change on the power transfer unit or rear drive unit at any mileage; instead the rear axle and U-joints are inspected at every oil change, and the fluid is replaced only if the unit has been submerged in water or is leaking. The 8-speed automatic is a different story: its MERCON ULV fluid is due at 150,000 miles under normal use and every 30,000 miles under severe conditions such as frequent off-road driving, so Badlands owners who work the G.O.A.T. Modes hard should plan on the shorter interval.
Severe & Special Operating Conditions
Ford defines "severe operating conditions" as driving that places increased stress on vehicle components. If any of the following apply to your regular driving habits, several maintenance intervals are shortened:
- Mountain driving with steep grades (common in WNC)
- Frequent short trips under 10 miles
- Extended idling or stop-and-go traffic
- Driving in dusty or gravel-road conditions
- Extreme heat or cold temperatures
- Frequent off-road driving (Badlands owners)
| Service Item | Normal Interval | Severe Interval |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil & filter | IOLM (up to 10,000 mi / 1 year) | IOLM triggers sooner under severe use |
| Spark plugs (both EcoBoost engines) | 100,000 mi | 60,000 mi |
| Automatic transmission fluid | 150,000 mi | 30,000 mi |
| Rear drive unit / PTU fluid (4x4) | No scheduled change | No scheduled change; replace if submerged or leaking |
| Brake fluid | Every 3 years | Every 3 years (no severe variant) |
| Engine air filter | 30,000 mi | Inspect at every oil change; replace as needed in dusty conditions |
| Cabin air filter | 20,000 mi | Inspect at every oil change; replace as needed in dusty conditions |
Western NC Mountain Driving
Routes like US-276 through the Pisgah National Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and I-26 through the Saluda Grade put extra stress on your Bronco Sport's brakes, transmission, and cooling system. If you regularly drive these mountain roads with a loaded vehicle or use your Bronco Sport's off-road modes on forest service roads, consider following the severe-condition schedule, which moves the transmission fluid change up to every 30,000 miles, even if your other driving is mostly highway miles.
