Every 2026 Expedition is powered by a version of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6: the standard 400-hp engine on Active, Platinum and King Ranch, and the 440-hp High-Output version that is standard on Tremor and available on Platinum. Both share the same oil, filters, spark plugs and service intervals, so one schedule covers the whole lineup, standard wheelbase or Max. Under normal driving the IOLM can run the full interval, but owners who tow frequently or climb steep mountain grades should expect it to call for service sooner. Regardless of the IOLM reading, Ford states to never exceed 10,000 miles or 1 year between oil changes.

Brake fluid: Replace every 3 years regardless of mileage. Ford does not publish a shorter severe-service interval, but the Expedition's size and towing loads put real demand on the braking system, so keeping to the 3-year schedule matters. The 2026 Expedition requires Motorcraft DOT 4 LV brake fluid (WSS-M6C65-A2) and the flushing equipment available at the Mahon Ford service center.
- Engine coolant: first change at 200,000 miles or 10 years, then every 100,000 miles or 5 years
- Ford allows the 20,000-mile and later items to be performed within 5,000 miles of the nearest oil change, so most of them can be bundled into a routine visit
Engine-Specific Maintenance Details
Both 2026 Expedition engines are versions of the same twin-turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost V6 paired with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic: the standard engine makes 400 hp and 480 lb-ft, and the High-Output version in the Tremor (and available on Platinum and Max Platinum) makes 440 hp and 510 lb-ft. Ford's owner's manual lists a single set of Motorcraft service parts for both, so the specifications below apply whichever Expedition you drive. The turbochargers, intercooler and direct injection system all depend on clean SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil (Ford spec WSS-M2C971-A1) and clean air filters to keep delivering that output. Towing-Specific Maintenance
Ford counts heavy loads and towing among its severe operating conditions, and the Expedition is built to tow. If you regularly pull a boat, camper or utility trailer, these are the items that change:
- Engine oil: the IOLM shortens the interval under towing loads because the turbocharged 3.5L runs hotter and breaks down oil faster; the 10,000-mile / 1-year cap still applies
- Spark plugs: replace at 60,000 miles under severe service instead of 100,000 miles (six Motorcraft SP-596 plugs)
- Transfer case fluid (4x4): change at 60,000 miles under severe service instead of the normal 150,000-mile interval
- Transmission fluid: Ford's schedule keeps the MERCON ULV change at 150,000 miles with no shortened severe interval, but the fluid level is inspected at every oil change
- Brakes and cooling system: pads, rotors, hoses, coolant strength and coolant hoses are inspected at every oil change; Expeditions equipped for heavy-duty towing carry a slightly larger coolant fill (16.06 qt versus 15.7 qt)
