2027 Ford Expedition Maintenance Schedule
Complete Service Intervals for the 3.5L EcoBoost and High-Output EcoBoost V6

Ford Expedition Scheduled Maintenance Overview
Keeping your 2027 Ford Expedition on schedule protects your investment and ensures reliable performance whether you are hauling your family or towing a camper through Western North Carolina. Ford's maintenance plan relies on the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM), an algorithm-based system that tracks engine RPM, load, temperature, and trip length to determine exactly when your Expedition needs service, so there is no guesswork required.
The 2027 Expedition uses the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor to call for oil service based on vehicle use. Towing, short trips, dust, idling and temperature extremes can bring service sooner. Ford’s scheduled-maintenance chart says not to exceed 10,000 miles or one year between service intervals. Rotate tires and complete the listed inspections at oil service; respond to an earlier monitor message rather than waiting for the mileage limit.

Complete Maintenance Schedule by Mileage
| Mileage Interval | Services Performed |
|---|---|
| Every 10,000 miles (IOLM; do not exceed 10,000 mi / 1 yr) | Change engine oil & filter (reset IOLM); rotate tires, inspect wear & tread; multi-point inspection; inspect ATF level (dipstick models); inspect brake pads/rotors/hoses & parking brake; inspect coolant strength & hoses; inspect exhaust & heat shields; inspect front axle & U-joints; inspect halfshaft boots; inspect steering linkage, ball joints, suspension, tie-rod ends, driveshaft & U-joints; inspect wheels; inspect cabin & engine air filters, service as required |
| Every 20,000 mi | Replace cabin air filter (FP-130) |
| Every 30,000 mi | Replace engine air filter (FA-1883) |
| Every 100,000 mi | Replace spark plugs (SP-596); inspect accessory drive belt(s); after initial belt inspection, inspect every other oil change until replaced. |
| Every 150,000 mi | Change automatic transmission fluid; change front axle fluid (4WD); change rear axle fluid; change transfer case fluid (4WD); replace accessory drive belt(s); separate axle/transfer-case exception says no scheduled change unless submerged or leaking — have the dealer confirm the applicable work. |
| At 200,000 mi / 10 years | Change engine coolant (initial); then every 5 years / 100,000 mi |
| Every 3 years | Change brake fluid (DOT 4 LV, WSS-M6C65-A2) |
Time-Based Service
Brake fluid: change every three years, regardless of mileage. The manual notes that servicing requires dealer equipment. Coolant: initial replacement at ten years or 200,000 miles, then five years or 100,000 miles, whichever limit comes first.
- Oil-service intervals must not exceed one year or 10,000 miles
- Ford calls for later mileage items within 5,000 miles of the last oil/filter change, without exceeding the designated interval
- After the initial 100,000-mile belt inspection, inspect every other oil change until replaced
Engine-Specific Maintenance Details
The standard-output and High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost engines share the owner’s manual’s listed service parts and oil requirement. Both take 6.0 quarts including the filter and use SAE 5W-30 meeting WSS-M2C971-A1. A single service-parts table covers the engine oil filter, engine air filter, cabin filter and spark plugs. The schedule distinguishes normal use from severe use, including frequent towing and heavy loads; match the work to how you operate the vehicle.
| Service Specification | 3.5L EcoBoost V6 | 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output V6 |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | SAE 5W-30, WSS-M2C971-A1 | SAE 5W-30, WSS-M2C971-A1 |
| Oil capacity with filter | 6.0 qt | 6.0 qt |
| Oil filter | Motorcraft FL-500-S | Motorcraft FL-500-S |
| Engine air filter | Motorcraft FA-1883 | Motorcraft FA-1883 |
| Cabin air filter | Motorcraft FP-130 | Motorcraft FP-130 |
| Spark plugs | Motorcraft SP-596 | Motorcraft SP-596 |
| Normal / severe spark plug interval | 100,000 / 60,000 mi | 100,000 / 60,000 mi |
Towing and Driveline Service
Towing, heavy loads, short trips, dust and extended idling are among Ford’s severe-use conditions. Confirm the drivetrain and use pattern before applying conditional work.
- Oil: follow an earlier monitor message; do not exceed 10,000 miles or one year
- Spark plugs: 60,000 miles severe, compared with 100,000 miles normally
- Transfer case: severe-use fluid change every 60,000 miles on equipped vehicles
- Transmission: table lists fluid change at 150,000 miles; level checks at oil service apply to dipstick-equipped vehicles
- Axles and transfer case: the table lists 150,000-mile fluid work, but a separate exception says no routine change unless submerged or leaking; have Mahon Ford reconcile the applicable instruction for your vehicle
- Belts: inspect at 100,000 miles and every other oil change thereafter; replace at 150,000 miles
Severe & Special Operating Conditions
Ford defines "severe operating conditions" as driving that places increased stress on vehicle components. If any of the following apply to your regular driving habits, several maintenance intervals are shortened:
- Frequent towing or hauling heavy loads
- Steep mountain grades with a loaded vehicle (common in WNC)
- Frequent short trips under 5 to 10 miles
- Extended idling or stop-and-go traffic
- Driving in dusty or gravel-road conditions
- Extreme heat or cold temperatures
| Service Item | Normal Interval | Severe / Conditional Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Oil and filter | IOLM; maximum 10,000 mi / 1 year | Earlier oil-life message applies |
| Spark plugs | 100,000 mi | 60,000 mi |
| Automatic transmission fluid | 150,000 mi | Confirm requirements for your vehicle and use |
| Accessory belts | Inspect 100,000 mi; replace 150,000 mi | Inspect every other oil change after initial check |
| Cabin air filter | 20,000 mi | Inspect more frequently in dust; replace as needed |
| Engine air filter | 30,000 mi | Inspect more frequently in dust; replace as needed |
| Brake fluid | 3 years | Same time limit |
| Coolant | Initially 10 years / 200,000 mi | Then 5 years / 100,000 mi |
| Axle / transfer-case fluids | 150,000-mi table entries; see separate exception | Transfer case 60,000 mi severe; confirm axle/transfer-case exception with dealer |
Western NC Mountain Driving
Routes like US-276 through the Pisgah National Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and I-26 through the Saluda Grade put extraordinary stress on your Expedition's brakes, transmission, and cooling system. A full-size SUV towing a boat or camper on these steep grades generates far more heat and brake wear than flat-highway driving. If you regularly tow on these mountain roads, follow the severe-service schedule for spark plugs and transfer case fluid, expect the IOLM to call for oil changes sooner, and have the brakes and cooling system checked at every visit, even if the rest of your driving is mostly highway miles.

Monthly & Semi-Annual Owner Checks
Between scheduled service visits, Ford recommends these quick checks that you can do yourself to catch issues early:
Monthly
Engine oil level • Tire pressure & spare • All lights & signals • Washer fluid level
Every 6 Months
Battery terminals • Coolant level • Wiper blades • Door seals • Parking brake
Annually
Safety warning lamps • Seatbelt function • Horn operation • Exhaust check
Before Winter
Coolant strength • Battery test • Tire tread depth • Wiper blades • Heater operation
