Ford Mustang Tire Guide
Tire Sizes, Types & Replacement Guide for Every Mustang Trim

Ford Mustang Tire Sizes by Trim
The Ford Mustang is a performance car, and tires are arguably the single most important component for grip, handling, and safety. The S650-generation Mustang uses staggered tire sizes on GT and Dark Horse trims, meaning front and rear tires are different widths. Matching the right tire to your driving style — daily commuting, weekend spirited driving, or track days — is essential.
| Trim / Wheel Size | Tire Size | Tire Type |
|---|---|---|
| EcoBoost (17-inch) | 225/55R17 | All-Season |
| EcoBoost Premium (19-inch) | 255/40R19 | Performance All-Season |
| GT (19-inch Staggered) | 255/40R19 (F) / 275/40R19 (R) | Performance Summer |
| Dark Horse (19-inch Staggered) | 275/35R19 (F) / 305/30R19 (R) | Performance Summer |
Trim-Specific Tire Details
EcoBoost (17-inch)
Tire Size: 225/55R17
Tire Type: All-Season
Standard 17-inch wheel on the base EcoBoost. All-season tires for year-round daily driving. Affordable and widely available.
EcoBoost Premium (19-inch)
Tire Size: 255/40R19
Tire Type: Performance All-Season
Larger 19-inch wheel with performance all-season tires. Higher speed rating for spirited driving while maintaining wet-weather capability.
GT (19-inch Staggered)
Tire Size: 255/40R19 (F) / 275/40R19 (R)
Tire Type: Performance Summer
Staggered setup with wider rear tires. Pirelli P Zero is the factory summer tire. Do NOT use these in winter — summer compound loses grip below 45°F.
Dark Horse (19-inch Staggered)
Tire Size: 275/35R19 (F) / 305/30R19 (R)
Tire Type: Performance Summer
Widest tires in the Mustang lineup. Pirelli P Zero Corsa is the factory tire. Track-focused compound with maximum dry grip. Winter driving is dangerous on these tires.

Tire Tips for Your Mustang
- GT and Dark Horse use staggered setups — front and rear tires are different sizes and cannot be rotated front-to-back
- Summer performance tires on GT and Dark Horse models are NOT safe in winter — consider a dedicated winter tire set if you drive year-round
- For Mustang owners in Western NC who drive through winter, a set of 17-inch or 18-inch winter wheels with all-season tires is a smart investment
- Dark Horse tires are expensive to replace ($250-400+ per tire) due to the 305/30R19 rear size — plan accordingly
- EcoBoost owners can upgrade to wider performance tires within the same wheel diameter for improved handling without buying new wheels
- Staggered setups can only be rotated side-to-side (left-right swap), not front-to-back
